Innovative curing technology

We are always striving for the right solution. For example, in recent years we developed Butanox P-50, which is a fast curing ketone peroxide for gelcoat curing. This innovative, high-reactivity methyl isopropyl ketone peroxide, like Butanox M-50, does not contain any polar compounds and has a guaranteed low percentage of water to secure osmosis-free gelcoats. Butanox P-50, due to its faster surface curing, enables a 15% reduction in styrene emission while delivering higher gloss and a strongly reduced fiber print-through. This saves on sanding and polishing and on the use of barrier coats. Due to the faster cure the time, lamination can be shortened by several hours leading to reduced cycle times and lower production costs. Butanox P-50 is the latest generation of our curing technology for marine applications.

Another of our innovations which changed the market in the recent years are Vanishing Red organic peroxides. These materials provide the benefits of normal dyed peroxides, such as securing peroxide addition and checking of proper mixing, but without the lasting red color that normal dyed peroxides leave in the cured resins. The red color disappears during the curing step leaving the end product colorless! The Vanishing Red feature is available for ketone peroxides, such as Butanox M-50, Butanox LPT-IN, Trigonox 44B, Trigonox 239 and several others. Needless to say we can provide whatever specific AkzoNobel Vanishing Red peroxide formulation your require.
